Freedam's take

I really enjoy how Peak Design approaches their brand book as an open design philosophy. Rather than jumping straight into strict rules, they take the time to map out their core mission, product ecosystem, and voice attributes like honest and radical. Their standards section stands out with a channel mapping diagram that shows how tone should shift between casual and clear depending on where you are speaking. They also include retail environments alongside photography and graphics, giving a complete view of how the physical products live in the world.

Thoughtful, practical, and grounded, emphasizing quality product design and clear communication.

What I noticed

  1. The brand book opens with company purpose, six numbered mission statements starting with 'Make the best things', and four voice pillars: honest, thoughtful, delightful, and radical.123
  2. Tone guidelines feature an infographic mapping tone variations from 'Clear & Concise' to 'Casual & Fun' across channels like Advertising, Packaging, Website, Social, and Email/SMS.45
  3. Logo rules specify using only black or white, prohibiting manually recreating text, bleeding off page edges, or repeating marks to form a field pattern.67
  4. An eight-swatch circular palette features a neutral backbone paired with a dedicated accent called '1% Red'.89

What I could not see

  • Could not inspect the full contents of the external Air.inc font download link.
  • Could not view full detailed guidelines below the fold on graphic, photo, and environment pages.

Ideas to borrow

  1. Mapping brand tone against specific customer touchpoints and impression volumes gives writers a practical framework for modulating voice across marketing channels.45
