Emory University brand guidelines

Emory University provides an overview of its brand guide publicly, while gating deep sections like logos, strategy, and visual style behind a single sign-on login.

Freedam's take — When I looked at Emory University's brand guide, I found a public landing page clearly outlining topics like brand strategy, visual style, logos, and environmental branding guidelines. However, following the navigation links to explore strategy, logos, or visual identity leads directly into their institutional single sign-on screen. It is an interesting example of an internal brand center that keeps deep guidelines and digital assets locked behind university authentication while leaving a high-level table of contents visible to anyone visiting the site.

  2. The main page outlines sections including Environmental Branding Guidelines, Tips for Emory Communicators, and Brand Resources.567
  3. Navigating to deep links such as Logos, Learn about strategy, and Discover visual style redirects to an Emory Web Login Service page.8910111213

Numbers refer to the screenshots above.

What I could not see

  • Content within strategy, logo downloads, and visual style could not be viewed because they require internal SSO authentication.

Ideas to borrow

  1. Presenting a broad outline of brand pillars publicly helps visitors know what exists before requiring authentication to see specifics.
